A Colonial Yuletide
The year is 1750 and George is King of England. In the colonies, people make ready for the Christmas holiday.
Celebrate
the holidays in a colonial setting, reminiscent of early America. Just as
happened hundreds of years ago, the holidays bring forth joyous music, festive
celebrations, and a spirit of bonhomie.
The music of that time runs the full gamut from the stately and serene (Ideo)
to merry Sussex Carol and Masters in this Hall. Drawing on the
diverse backgrounds of America’s early settlers, the influences of other
countries are clearly evident in such carols as Come All Ye Shepherds, Fum,
Fum, Fum, The Seven Joys of Mary and March of the Kings. There are
those that are uniquely American, too – Tomorrow Shall be My Dancing Day and
While by My Sheep (the Echo Carol). These and many others offer another
perspective of the most beloved holiday of them all. In colonial costume and
rich harmony,
The Doorway Singers bring you
this Christmas gift.
Happy Holidays!
